Educational Services
We are able to provide a range of specialist ventilation equipment for educational design and technology workshops, laboratories and kitchen applications.
The products and services we offer are backed up by over fifty years of experience, from initial design through to compliance testing of the installation and this therefore ensures a high level of control over these activities.
With quality in mind all products are manufactured to meet the current “British Standards” and educational department guidelines.
We provide a comprehensive service giving you the client, the peace of mind that the full package is being dealt with on a professional basis.
All installations are compliance tested and a certificate of conformance is then issued for your COSHH / health and safety records.
To complete the service all relevant operational and preventative maintenance information is documented for you retention.
Educational Fume Cupboards
The fume cupboards provided by ourselves for educational use shall be supplied and installed in accordance with “Building Bulletin 88 : Fume Cupboards in Schools.
These fume cupboards have each been approved by “CLEAPSS – 1998” having the option of the following benefits:-
- 1000mm, 1200mm or 1500mm wide units
- Vertical / horizontal sliding sashes
- Work surface and services to suit customer requirements
- Acid / solvent storage facilities
Refurbished Fume Cupboards
We also offer the client the service of refurbishing their existing fume cupboards. In some cases this is not cost effective and a new educational fume cupboard is the only option.
However, in some situations an existing fume cupboard can be refurbished by our company to an acceptable standard.
Dust Extraction
We are able to provide a range of dust extraction systems serving a range of applications including circular saws, bandsaw units, planer and sanders.
We individually design, manufacture, install and commission each of the systems that are all different dependant on the application.
On completion of each of the dust extraction installations we would issue a certificate of conformance for your COSHH / health and safety records together with operational and maintenance instructions.

Heat Treatment
We are able to provide a range of extraction systems serving both brazing hearth and welding applications using either our purpose made “VST”powder coated fume hoods as detailed on the image below or flexible fume extract arms connecting to a range of purpose made stainless steel ductwork systems.
We individually design, manufacture, install and commission each of the systems that are all different dependant on the application.

On completion of each of the dust extraction installations we would issue a certificate of conformance for your COSHH / health and safety records together with operational and maintenance instructions.
Local Exhaust Ventilation Testing (LEV)
Regulation No. 7 of the Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 1994, requires that the exposure of employees to substances hazardous to health be either prevented or, where that is not reasonably practicable, adequately controlled. The regulation is supported by the COSHH Approved Code of Practise which list ways in which control can be achieved and makes specific mention of enclosure, partial enclosure with LEV and sufficient general ventilation.
Fume cupboards and LEV systems are used to protect operatives from the release of hazardous airborne substances from a process into the workplace environment. It is therefore extremely important that regular maintenance be carried out to ensure that each system is performing to its required function.
COSHH regulations require that inspection and maintenance of LEV systems should be carried out at intervals of no more than 14 months while BS 7258 recommendations advise that fume cupboards should be inspected and maintained every 12 months.
What is involved in Inspection / Maintenance?
As most extraction systems are designed to remove hazardous fumes from the workplace, fully qualified and trained personnel should only carry out any maintenance and inspection works.
This involves taking face velocity readings, mechanical checks, inspection of the ductwork for leaks and breakage, monitoring of performance indicators and alarms and the general plant maintenance.
Any problems or anticipated problems would be highlighted and brought to the attention of the client within the relevant documentation provided by us.

Documentation / Certification
The full details of all checks and maintenance works are recorded, documented and made readily available for inspection. These documents will typically include face velocity readings taken, the designed average face velocity, description of plant, faults, rectification and general maintenance carried out (these records are kept by ourselves for a minimum of six years).
Calibration of Equipment
All metering equipment such as anemometers used by Glen Wilson throughout the testing and inspection works shall be fully calibrated by an approved calibration body.
Kitchen Canopies
We offer the client individually made to order specialist kitchen fume exhaust canopies / hoods manufactured from aluminium, stainless steel or powder coated zintec sheet steel.
Each canopy would be individually measured by our “in – house” design team and subsequently manufactured by our fully time served operatives. We always ensure close liaison with the client ensuring that they are fully aware of the system that are to receive prior to installation.
The canopies would each be provided with a range of additional products such as fan units, grease eliminator panels, damper controls and suitable extract grilles.
The canopies shall each be complete with a condensate channel and a suitable drainage point where applicable.
The canopies shall each connect to a range of suitable ductwork that would terminate either on the roof or through an external outside wall.
Canopy Maintenance / Ductwork Cleaning
It is imperative that all kitchen canopies, grease filters, ductwork and fan units are cleaned and serviced on a regular basis to prevent both breakdowns with the system and also to prevent a grease build – up causing a potential fire hazard.
We offer our client a service involving the regular maintenance and cleaning of each of the following products:-
Grease Filter Panels
The periodic cleaning of the filter panels is absolutely essential. A clogged grease filter can disrupt the entire ventilation system and also prevent a serious and unnecessary fire hazard.
We offer spare filter panels as they are a cost effective way of avoiding “down time”whilst the original panels are being cleaned. This then enables cleaning of the filters to be carried out at a convenient time in the kitchen schedule.

Fan Unit
We would clean the exterior of the fan unit and visual inspect the condition of the mounting feet and fixing devices supporting the fan. The fan impellor would be checked to see that it rotates freely and it would be cleaned as necessary.
